Sherpa Training Program
Paddling For Sherpas
Thompson Rivers University Adventure Guide Program has always supported guide training for and the TRU 2010 expedition to Nepal is no exception. We are excited to be fund raising to support 13 local Nepales guides wanting to advance their education in subjects such as wilderness first aid, basic english language studies, trekking guide, basic mountaineering training, advanced mountaineering training, and culinary training. We hope to raise $4682 American dollars to be able to send each of the 13 Sherpas to the training they have requested, in hopes that they will be able to advance their careers and raise the living standard for their families and communities. Almost all the guides work for Adventure Thamserku Treks and expeditions, (www.adventurethamserku.com ). Chris Jones Griffon Expeditions (www.griffonexpeditions.com ) will oversee the training facilitation to make the fundraising fully accountable and ensure that every dollar goes straight to the training. No money will be needed for administration fees that often come with supporting a large charity. Donation to support Paddling for Sherpas can be made at “Sheila McColman” <Smccolman@tru.ca>.
